Young Composer of Dyfed Ensemble in Residence 2009/2010
The LSQ have been named as the ensemble in residence for the 2009/2010 Young Composer of Dyfed competition. The residency will see the LSQ workshop compositions submitted for the award and will culminate in school performances and a final recital of the of the final short listed pieces.
RPS Music Awards
The LSQ are delighted to have been nominated in the 'Young Artist' category for this years Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards. The short listed nominees will be announced in April.
LSQ New Music Award Winners
Congratulations to Mark Boden (RWCMD) and Benjamin Tubb (RNCM), who were awarded joint first prize by judges Andrew Poppy, Gabriel Jackson and Sarah Field for their pieces at the 2008 LSQ New Music Awards. Both pieces will be published by Staunch Publications and performed by the LSQ during their 2009 concert season.

BBC Radio Wales Appearance
The LSQ will be appearing on Welsh soprano Shan Cothi's radio show on BBC Radio Wales on Sunday 12th of April 2009.
We will be performing live as well as chatting to Shan about quartet during the 2 hour show. It would be great if you could tune in to BBC Radio Wales on the 1st of March @ 10am to have a listen to us.

Faenol Festival update
The LSQ will perform at Bryn Terfel's Faenol Festival on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th August 2008. Their performances will be on the main stage before Bryn Terfel & Nadia Krasteva's main concert on the Friday and John Barrowman & Daniel Boy's concert on the Saturday.

LSQ win place on Live Music Now! scheme
Live Music Now was founded in 1977 by the legendary violinist, Yehudi Menuhin and his friend Ian Stoutzker. Menuhin knew from his own experience that music transcends all barriers of language, illness and disability. For people whose lives are particularly challenging or stressful, involvement in live music brings immense pleasure as well as therapeutic and educational benefits.
The scheme takes performances of the highest musical quality to a wide variety of settings across the UK, particularly to those places where experiencing music performed live is rarely part of daily life.
LSQ receive MBF Ensemble Award
The LSQ are delighted to announce that they have been awarded an MBF ensemble award to help fund their recent album "Catching Sunlight' recording with Dave Stapleton. The project featuring Neil Yates, Paula Gardiner, Elliot Bennett and Dave Stapleton will be released in November 2008 on Edition Records and available from all good retailers.

Congratulations to James Williamson from the Royal Academy of Music for winning the inaugural LSQ New Music Award. His piece 'In Memoriam' was considered the most fitting piece to be recorded on the LSQ's latest recording in 2008 and published by Staunch Publications.
Congratulations also go to Mark Boden (Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama) who won the 2nd prize (The Sax.co.uk Award) for his piece 'Constellations'.

The 2008 competition will be open to entries from Jan 10th 2008 with the final being held in November 2008. More details will follow soon.

'FLUX' concerts and recordings
Dates for the LSQ's most exciting project to date, 'FLUX', are now listed on the Calendar page.
The brand new programme of commissioned works for saxophone quartet and piano by composers Gabriel Jackson, Dave Stapleton, Eric Schwartz, Lucy Pankhurst and Ashley John Long has been the LSQ's main focus since early 2006 and Spring 2008 will see the release of two albums 'Just Around the Next Corner' and 'FLUX' containing all the newly commissioned works.
